Vienna terrorist attack in Austria

On Monday evening, a terrorist act plunged Vienna, the Austrian capital, into fear and amazement. Attackers opened fire on civilians,
causing four dead and several injured, seven of them seriously injured.
The death toll is currently four, including an assailant who was “a sympathizer” of the jihadist group Islamic State (IS), according to Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, who deplored a “disgusting terrorist attack”. The criminal act, widely condemned by European public figures, was allegedly committed by “very professional” assailants,
well armed and prepared, again according to the chancellor, who, in the process, called on the Viennese to “stay at home”. After the events, which occurred only a few hours before the entry into force of a re-containment in the European country (Covid-19 requires),
at least one suspect is still on the loose. A manhunt has since been opened to find him.
Until then Austria was rather spared from this Islamist violence. Our hearts and prayers go out to the victims and to the Jewish community in Vienna.
Remember that the FJN has an office in Vienna.
