The many facets of Judaism

Rabbi Akiba was asked why he persisted in teaching Torah when it was forbidden by Rome under penalty of capital punishment, Rabbi Akiba replied: “The fish cannot survive without being in the water, asking them to come out to survive is absurd.” The truth of Judaism is not found in history, but in the deep respect for histories. Every culture has the right to its stories. What remains after the erasure of cultures and memories, if not a population emptied of judgment. The human space of Judaism is multiple and multicolored. This goes through traditions which are often linked or which may have chosen over time to distinguish themselves from one another in their priorities. Thus the conservative movement has separated from the Orthodox or the Reformed. Among these multiple facets of Judaism, there are also the founding narratives of each community. However, memory does not struggle. Even if we consider that the memory of one, can constitute a narration for the other. If from this memorial heritage it is a common future that emerges, why go looking for lice in the memory of the other? Every culture has the right to its stories. What remains after the erasure of cultures and memories, if not a population emptied of judgment. Populations cut off from their cultures are the most vulnerable. To deny the other in his memory, means that something in us, is disturbed by the thought of the other about himself. How to identify this something? If we ourselves adopt their attitude towards each other, we are only helping them. The truth of Judaism is not found in history, but in the deep respect for histories. We are in the era of storytellers and other zozos of the same caliber, who represent the world’s assault on human memories. These deniers are the direct heirs of the old academy, who take pleasure in deconstructing what they considered to be identity “dreams” in the founding narratives of the populations.
