Book : Negritude and Jewishness. By Maurice Dorès

Black Jews, between two worlds, renew a dialogue between Jews and Blacks today started since the dawn of time. A page of history emerges from the shadows. We walk through it passing by the tracks of undulating African earth, a conference in Dakar, an evening of music afro-klezmer in Paris, an Ethiopian restaurant in Harlem, a black synagogue in Queens, Tel Aviv Central Station and other walks in the realm of negritude and Jewishness. Years after the publication of his pioneering book, The Beauty of Cham, Jewish Worlds, Black Worlds, The author has known many people who came to him with their experiences and research. Maurice Dorès has drawn on these meetings, and wonders what has changed. He shows us that Jews have colors, and Judaism does not.
Maurice Dorès, former director of research at the University of Paris VII, is an ethnologist,
director and psychiatrist. He lives between Paris and Tel Aviv.
